Intel IRAF Installer available, untested
November 5th, 2006 by Marcos
Well, I don’t have an Intel-based Mac but I think I have successfully created a .pkg installer for IRAF 2.13 BETA 2. The install process is the same, create the IRAF User, run the installer, then run the install script … and I just realized I forgot to put the .pkg installer in a folder with a README, but oh well. Someone with an Intel Mac and some bravery, give it a shot. It’s available at the download page.
Update A commenter says it seemed to work! Any other reviews, please post in comments.
Another Update It would appear the name of the .pkg is wrong, it says 2.12 BETA 2 but it’s 2.13, I assure you.

I just installed IRAF on my intel powerbook using your new install package. It worked great, allthough I had to run the install script in terminal twice before it finally worked correctly. Everything seems to work fine so far, I’ll do some more testing over the next little while. Also I love your iraf button. It’s a lot faster when it only takes two clicks to launch iraf. It works great on my powerbook.
Thanks!

Was there any specific error on the first run of the install script? Sometimes it complains about permissions – like if the iraf user doesn’t own everything. Actually, the last time I used the installer the install script didn’t finish the first time but I forget why… maybe something about making symlinks. Hmm.
Anyway, glad it worked! It was a bit of a shot in the dark since I couldn’t test it, so glad to hear a positive review. I’ll try to package up at least GUIAPPS and maybe maybe STSDAS and TABLES for Intel too over the weekend.
