Papers 1.5 released

November 5th, 2007 by admin

The excellent Papers has been updated to 1.5 and includes additional search engines as well as the ability to use search engine plug-ins. New search engines include Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. No ADS yet but Google Scholar does an okay job finding ADS and ApJ papers.

It also boasts improved Leopard compatibility and is still 29 Euros (I think there are some student discounts.)

Google Scholar is a step forward, but I think we would still benefit from ADS. At last weekend I went through all articles in my Papers library, but Scholar didn’t find metainfo for all articles even some of these included doi:-information. However, I believe that the Papers 1.5 is an excellent program already, and more useful for astronomers than the previous version 1.1.

hi, while I use bibdesk exclusively and cannot comment a comparison to papers, bibdesk just added ADS functionality. v1.3.11, http://bibdesk.sourceforge.net/. I find its PDF library utility pretty useful.
