iMac 27 Review – With 5k Retina Display Best Computer in The World?
There are two types of people in this world – those who love Apple products and those who hate them. No matter how hard one side of the opposition tries to persuade the other that their beloved machines are better, the debate just never seems to end. However, I would be willing to bet my bottom dollar that nobody on planet earth right now could look at the stunning 5K retina display of the new iMac 27 and deny that it’s, without a doubt, the sharpest, clearest and overall the most beautiful display that a desktop computer has ever seen.
Let’s take a look at this beauty in more detail:
Main Product Specifications:
- Screen Resolution: 5120 x 2880 (5K)
- 3GHZ Intel Core i5 Processor
- 8GB DDR3 RAM
- AMD Radeon R9 GPU (2GB GDDR5)
- 1TB of Internal Storage Space
- Thunderbolt 2 + USB 3.0
iMac 27″ – What Has Changed?
Surprisingly, not much. At least in regards to the overall look and feel of the thing. The computer itself is pretty much identical to its predecessor, except for one area which has received a mammoth upgrade – the display.
The display panel in the 2014 version of the iMac was breath-taking to look at in its own right, but Apple have decided to one-up the iMac’s predecessor by upgrading to a 5K panel that promises to provide a broader range of colors, sharper details and far more clarity than the older versions. Whether you are looking to purchase a Mac for entertainment purposes, or to run professional tools such as Photoshop and Pro Tools, the new display will make the experience even more enjoyable than it previously was.
In terms of the processor that powers the new 27” iMac, Apple have decided to rely on an Intel Skylake Quad-Core i5 processor which runs at a respectable 3.3GHZ, providing more than enough brute force to power through any task you try to throw at it. However, it’s worth noting that the new iMac, like the rest of Apples desktop releases are not the best choice for top-level gaming. Yes, it’s more than capable of running the latest games at a reasonable FPS, but it would be unjustified for me to recommend the iMac for anything more than casual gaming.
The New iMac 27 Has Been on A Diet?
Although the appearance of the new 2015 iMac has not changed much when comparing it side-by-side to its predecessor, it’s blatantly obvious that a lot of effort was put into making sure the latest version of this Apple classic is more ‘modernised’ than their previous releases, which, in Apple-speak, means that it’s thinner. The 5K retina display on the newest model is incredibly slim, with a profile of just 5mm: 40% smaller than previous models.
- The 5K Retina Display is stunning. You can experience true 5K resolution on a large 27” display.
- Powerful Intel i5 processors provide enough power to allow you to run all of your necessary software and applications with optimal performance.
- The magic keyboard and mouse are rechargeable.
- It’s not ideal for gaming, unfortunately.
- It’s pretty expensive.
- There is no height adjustment on the display panel.
Even when taking the aforementioned cons into consideration, the new 27” iMac is without a doubt one of the best computers on the market today. Regardless of whether you are an Apple fan or not, the sheer beauty and performance capabilities of this computer are possibly the best in the world right now. If you are looking to upgrade your workstation to something stunning to look at, but also powerful enough to provide you with everything you need from a computer and more, look no further than this.
